Most of the PP barons turn their backs on Casado and demand a congress to replace him

The leadership of the popular parliamentary group calls for the dismissal of García Egea and the holding of a summit that changes the leadership

At least 12 of the 17 territorial leaders of the PP will request this Wednesday in their meeting with the party leadership that an extraordinary congress be held as soon as possible and that Pablo Casado be replaced as president.

In the same sense, the majority of the board of directors of the popular parliamentary group, with the absence for the moment of the spokesperson, Cuca Gamarra, has issued a statement calling for the holding of that congress in the face of the "extremely serious" situation in which the formation is submerged and urging the immediate resignation of the general secretary, Teodoro García Egea.

Casado's support is now reduced to a handful of faithful: his

, Egea, the Deputy Secretary for Organization, Ana Beltrán, the Deputy Secretary for Communication, Pablo Montesinos, and the Deputy Territorial Secretary, Antonio García Terol.

EL PAÍS has confirmed that the leaders of the PP in Andalusia (Juan Manuel Moreno), Galicia (Alberto Núñez Feijóo), Castilla y León (Alfonso Fernández Mañueco), Asturias (Teresa Mallada), the Basque Country (Carlos Iturgaiz), Catalonia (Alejandro Fernández ), Extremadura (José Antonio Monago), Aragón (Jorge Azcón), Cantabria (María José Sáenz de Buruaga), Murcia (Fernando López Miras), the Balearic Islands (Marga Prohens) and the Valencian Community (Carlos Mazón) will bring to Wednesday's meeting the petition for an extraordinary congress.

This thesis is also defended by the main popular leader in Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso ―whose confrontation with Casado is at the origin of the enormous crisis that the formation is currently experiencing―, although she is not president of the Madrid PP and is not summoned to the appointment.

The PP of Castilla-La Mancha, headed by Francisco Núñez, also calls for "drastic and urgent decisions", and throughout this Tuesday it will convene its bodies to agree on a specific request.

The executive of the PP of the Balearic Islands has also been summoned for a meeting in which to establish a position, although party sources advance that the president, Marga Prohens, already asked Casado directly in a conversation held last weekend to take "a step to one side”, and, therefore, they assure that they support an urgent extraordinary congress.

Some territorial barons, such as Sáenz de Buruaga, Monago or Mallada, have advanced that in this hypothetical extraordinary congress they would show their support for the Galician Alberto Núñez Feijóo as the new leader.

The position of López Miras from Murcia is especially significant, since he is the only regional president of the PP - of the five that the party has - who was until now a declared

The statement from the board of directors of the PP parliamentary group, signed by 7 of its 13 members, points out, for its part, that the "events of recent days" have put the PP in an "extremely serious situation" that requires a “immediate effective response”.

From the "loyalty" to the party and the "respect" for its president, Pablo Casado, the deputies demand the "immediate dismissal" of the general secretary, Teodoro García Egea, and the urgent convening of an extraordinary congress "in which the people who will have to lead this party and, therefore, who will also be called to lead the necessary change demanded by the Government of our country”.

In other words, that the candidate for the next general elections also comes out of that congress.

Ana Pastor, vice president of Congress, and Cuca Gamarra, the group's spokeswoman, did not sign the statement, although they already asked during the meeting of the steering committee on Monday to call an extraordinary congress.
