A climber died on the Geißfuss near Oberstdorf.
Two men had made an emergency call during the night.
Because of the snowstorm, several rescue attempts failed.
Oberstdorf – A fatal accident occurred while hiking in the Allgäu Alps.
Two people got up on Tuesday night near Oberstdorf (Oberallgäu district), said a police spokesman.
One apparently froze to death overnight, the other person in distress was taken to the hospital by rescue helicopter.
She had to be resuscitated and was in mortal danger last night.

According to the spokesman, both climbers have not yet been identified, so that no relatives have been notified.
Even the body of the deceased remained on the mountain, as salvage was too dangerous with 40 centimeters of fresh snow and strong gusts.

The two people had gotten lost on the Geißfuss ridge near Oberstdorf on the way from the Seealpe to the Edmund-Probst-Haus.
The emergency was reported to the Oberstdorf mountain rescue service around midnight.
Because of snowfall and a storm at 100 km/h, the multi-hour deployment of mountain rescue services, the police and an ambulance had to be temporarily interrupted, said the police spokesman.
In the end, a mountain rescuer was only able to determine the death of one person. In the course of the mission, he himself suffered from mild hypothermia, which was treated.
