The shortage of skilled workers is also a burden for companies in the Miesbach district.

The SMG now wants to clarify in a survey what support they would like when looking for trainees.

District

– What counts more in applications: grade point average, curriculum vitae or the personal impression in the interview?

Not only many excited young professionals rack their brains over this question.

Johann Holzinger is also keenly interested in what the personnel managers of the companies listed in the training compass really value when awarding traineeships.

"When we know where the entrepreneurs' problems are, we can develop tailor-made solutions and offer our active support," explains the regional manager for education at the location marketing company (SMG) Miesbach.

In an online survey, Holzinger wants to collect the facts relevant to combating the shortage of skilled workers and then incorporate them into further projects on the subject of training.

Lockdowns and short-time work have not eliminated the shortage of skilled workers

The regional manager reports that more than half of the companies are currently unable to fill vacancies, at least temporarily.

Corona lockdowns and short-time work only temporarily pushed the problem into the background.

Now that the economy is slowly but surely picking up steam again, it is reappearing in strength – even stronger than before the pandemic broke out.

"Anyone who wants to make their company fit for the future and position their staff well today faces major challenges," emphasizes Holzinger.

The aim of the training compass, which is now available in 16 districts, is to bring applicants and companies together.

The now nationwide survey of entrepreneurs is the counterpart of a survey that took place a good year ago.

Here the opinions of 3,000 students, parents and teachers in nine districts were obtained.

Some of the knowledge gained back then was already included in the catalog of questions for the companies, explains Holzinger.

As soon as these answers are available, the results can be compared in order to be presented and converted into possible recommendations for action in a broad discussion.

Results should lead to concrete recommendations for action

According to Holzinger, the anonymous survey not only wants to find out which applicant criteria are particularly important to the company, but also to filter out what efforts the companies are making when recruiting junior staff and how successful these measures are overall.

In addition to the classic job advertisements, you can also choose from job fairs, school visits, holiday jobs or internships as well as all kinds of online campaigns.

The answers to the question of why training places could not be filled should be exciting for politicians.

Not only missing applications are mentioned here, but also an insufficient public transport connection or no available living space.

So there are many reasons why Holzinger urges companies to participate.

All questions were answered in just five minutes.

The results could be of much more long-term use.

"They provide important clues for taking suitable measures against the shortage of skilled workers in our district." And finally revealing to nervous applicants what really matters.
