A war in Europe is looming: According to a military analysis, Russia is preparing a new level of escalation.

Moscow/Kiev – In the Ukraine conflict*, the signs are currently pointing to war.

With his order to send armed forces to the self-proclaimed People's Republics of Luhansk and Donetsk, Russian President Vladimir Putin has escalated the crisis to a new level.

However, the invasion that Putin has apparently launched is not just a land attack.

The Russian Navy plays a central role in this.

Experts have now found out where Russia's warships are currently positioned in the Mediterranean and Black Seas.

The result: Vladimir Putin* has an "overwhelming" array of attack-ready naval units.

Experts HK Sutton and Damien Symon analyzed the situation and published an article in the specialist magazine Naval News.

The magazine often examines the movements of international warships.

In their contribution, Sutton, who is considered a security analyst, and Symon, who specializes in evaluating publicly available satellite data, say that the ship's coordinates indicate a large-scale attack by Russia on Ukraine.

An indication of this, according to the two experts, are “easily overlooked” support ships that can be seen alongside numerous combat ships.

According to the report, these are an important factor for repair measures on the high seas.

The support ships are not usually involved in naval maneuvers.

According to Sutton and Symon, one fact in particular contradicts the Kremlin's widespread claim that naval troop movements are at most maneuvers: According to the experts, increased activity has been observed in the Mediterranean region.

The experts suspect that these should bind possible NATO forces.

According to the analysis, Russia* has primarily positioned warships from the Arctic in the Black Sea.
