Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky affirmed his country's readiness for dialogue with Russia in any format to resolve the crisis and tension in eastern Ukraine.
Russia Today website quoted Zelensky as saying today: "We understand all the risks and urge Russia to resolve this issue through dialogue and to sit at the negotiating table, and we are ready to sit in all places in any form for dialogue."
Zelensky expressed his belief that there will be no war by Russia against Ukraine, and there will be no large-scale escalation, and if that happens, we will apply martial law.
The Ukrainian president pointed out that Kiev is considering severing diplomatic relations with Russia over its recognition of the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk.
On the other hand, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry announced that it had summoned the Ukrainian Chargé d'Affairs in Moscow, Vasily Pokotilo, for consultations.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed today that Moscow remains open to diplomatic contacts regarding the Ukrainian crisis and that it does not want to sever diplomatic relations with Kiev, in the wake of Russia's recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics.
