Unprecedented level of risk is shaking up the global cybersecurity industry

DECRYPTION - In 2021, mergers and acquisitions and the amount of investment in the sector broke records.


Never before has the cybersecurity sector seen so many strategic mergers and acquisitions as in 2021, both in number and in value.

Some 280 transactions totaled $77.5 billion, almost four times more than in 2020 ($19.7 billion), according to Momentum Cyber's annual benchmark study.

During the year, 14 operations even exceeded one billion dollars, which is unheard of.

Among the most emblematic, the American company McAfee - famous for its antivirus software - was bought by a consortium led by the investment fund Advent International for 14 billion dollars.

Proofpoint was swallowed for 12.3 billion by Thoma Bravo, Norton merged with Avast… And the movement does not seem to slow down at the start of 2022, Microsoft eyeing the publisher Mandiant (4.2 billion dollars) and Cisco having sights on Splunk …
