Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) considers further talks to avert war in Ukraine to be urgently needed.
"We are so close to a war in Europe as probably rarely in the last almost 80 years after the end of the Second World War," said Woidke on Tuesday in Potsdam.
The main task for everyone involved, including the federal government and Europe, is to avoid a military conflict at all costs.
Potsdam – The Brandenburg head of government believes that further sanctions against Russia are necessary.
"However, these sanctions will at best promote talks, they will not replace talks with dialogue and negotiations," said Woidke.
"That's why I'm asking everyone here to enter into dialogue as soon as possible, to come to negotiations as quickly as possible in order to achieve a lasting solution that will bring peace in Europe." The situation requires great prudence.
A united European answer is the right answer.
