In the vaccination centers and in the medical practices of the district, the demand for corona vaccinations continues to decrease.

"There is very little going on," explains district office spokeswoman Sina Török when asked, in the vaccination centers there is "yawning emptiness".

Those few who would come now would usually have a third vaccination done.

Dachau – Those responsible in the district are now hoping for the so-called protein or inactivated vaccine Novavax so that unvaccinated people can find their way to the doctor’s office and vaccination center again to be vaccinated against the corona virus for the first time.

The vaccine is considered an alternative to the mRNA vaccines from Moderna and Biontech and is injected in two doses.

Its protection against infection of around 90 percent is considered highly effective.

The fact that there are many mRNA vaccination skeptics in the Dachau district who actually want to pick up their Novavax spike is proven by the fact that “we have already had a few calls to the health department asking when and where we will have it soon,” reports Török.

The answer to this question is encouraging: "Next week, by Wednesday at the latest, we will have the Novavax vaccine," says Török.

400 initial vaccination appointments would then be offered in the vaccination centers.

According to Török, you can already register for this via the vaccination registration portal BayImco at https://impfzentren.bayern.

According to Török, there were also some among the nursing staff or in the health sector who had already registered a vaccination appointment for Novavax with regard to the planned compulsory vaccination.

To this group of people, Török believes, the inactivated vaccine appeared to be the “lesser evil”.

However, after Prime Minister Markus Söder announced two weeks ago that Bavaria did not want to introduce compulsory vaccinations in the health sector for the time being, the appointments that had already been agreed were “cancelled immediately”, according to Török.

Nevertheless, the district office hopes to be able to convince some of the unvaccinated nursing staff of the benefits of the corona vaccination in the coming weeks.

It is already clear to everyone: there will not or cannot be such a vaccination rush as in November and December.

Around 14,000 doses of vaccine were administered in the district in the weeks from December 14 to 20 and from December 21 to Christmas;

12,000 of them were third vaccinations, but up until Christmas "around 1,000 people came every week for the first or second vaccination," says Török.

The result is that 60 percent of the district population are now boosted.

"That's great," says the district office, because Dachau is far above the average for Bavaria and Germany.

117,000 district citizens have full vaccination protection.

According to Török, the fact that things have calmed down considerably in the past few weeks with an average of 200 first and second vaccinations and 800 booster vaccinations is also due to the fact that “we don’t have that many that we can currently boost or vaccinate”.

Since Novavax is only approved from the age of 18 and the district “has a whole bunch of people who have just recovered”, the group of people is relatively limited with a rough estimate of 1500 unvaccinated adults.

Nevertheless, according to Török: Novavax now wants to pick up exactly these 1,500 people.

She promises: "Those who want it will get it from us next week!"
