A bit of fun is a must: Geretsried celebrates carnival

The "Island Dancers" have rehearsed their choreography for a long time in order to be able to act as a guard for the fool's island of Wolfratshausen.

Last year, carnival fell victim to the lockdown.

A little is possible again this year.

The Guards of the Fool's Island perform in Geretsried.

Geretsried – Due to the pandemic, the carnival season is running with the handbrake on again this year.

But the fool's island of Wolfratshausen doesn't let that spoil the good mood.

At a public dress rehearsal on Saturday, the Guards showed the dances that they had been rehearsing diligently over the past few months.

In Gelting bei Alten Wirth, the "Speedys", the "Dancing Fires", the "Island Dancers" and the "Crazy Houswives" received a lot of applause.

Geretsried's Mayor Michael Müller and his wife Daniela spread a good mood as "ambassadors of joy" with their opening waltz.

Stew and donuts were served for refreshment.

Carnival in Corona times with the Fools' Island in Wolfratshausen

On Sunday it continued: Young and old donned the most beautiful carnival costumes to shout “Helau” and “Alaaf” in the garden of the Geretsried mothers' center.

The children's carnival started there at 1.33 p.m. under the open sky.

According to the 2G rule and with the FFP2 mask obligation, parents and children enjoyed a few happy hours, as befits the popular fifth season.

The children's guard "Speedys" from Fool's Island brought the magic of Hogwarts to the garden of the mother's center.

The dance groups from the Fools’ Island in Wolfratshausen, the Princes’ Guard in Benediktbeuern and the “Ambassadors of Joy” Mayor Michael Müller and his wife Daniela all made an appearance here, too.

On Wednesday, February 23rd, the carnival continues in the mothers' center.

From 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., children's faces are transformed into zoo animals, elves or Batman.

Meanwhile, parents can enjoy a piece of cake.

No registration is required for the parents' café.

In the interior of the mothers' center on Stifter-Straße, masks are compulsory and the 2G rule applies.  

The Urzeln come to Karl-Lederer-Platz

Because of Corona, however, distance is required.

And on Shrove Tuesday, March 1st, Karl-Lederer-Platz takes another step towards normality: last year, the city of Geretsried showed historical footage of the carnival goings-on on Karl-Lederer-Platz.

It was lockdown.

This year, cheerfulness is allowed live and in color again - at least by far.

On Shrove Tuesday, March 1st, the bells and whips of the Urzeln ring out from 2 p.m.

Then the guards of the Fools' Island in Wolfratshausen appear.

The party and show band “Blow up” makes music. The town hall writes: “Please keep your distance!

We are looking forward to your visit!"
