Holzkirchen – An drunk 44-year-old crashed a level crossing in Holzkirchen on Tuesday.

There will be delays in the next few days.

Update, 4 p.m.: BRB comments

After on Tuesday evening (February 22nd) a car driver rammed both the St. Andrew's cross and the traffic light system, as well as the barrier at the level crossing on Tegernseer Straße in Holzkirchen, there are currently problems in train traffic.

"The technical facilities were severely damaged," reports the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB).

"The route was closed for around two hours and there will probably be delays in train traffic for several days due to the repair work being carried out by DB Netz AG."

BRB Managing Director Arnulf Schuchmann explains the prescribed safety measures: "Until the repairs to the technical equipment by DB Netz AG have been completed, our train drivers will be asked to stop in front of the Tegernseer Straße level crossing by means of a signal, since the crossing will not be possible until the repairs have been completed is technically secure.

The train must then stop in front of the level crossing.

The train driver observes the traffic, blows his whistle as soon as he can see that the level crossing is clear and then drives at walking speed to about the middle of the level crossing.

As soon as he gets there, he clears the level crossing as quickly as possible, so he accelerates.”

At the level crossing on Holzkirchner Straße, this rule only applies if the train is coming from the direction of Schaftlach.

This procedure leads to unavoidable delays.

DB Netz AG is working flat out to restore the technical safety equipment in order to ensure that traffic is flowing again and trains are running on time as quickly as possible.

First report from February 23:

On Tuesday (February 22), a 44-year-old from Holzkirchner was driving his car on Tegernseer Straße from Lochham towards Holzkirchen at 5:15 p.m.

Shortly before the level crossing there, the Holzkirchner left the road and crashed into a traffic light.

The car stopped on the adjacent train tracks.

"According to the initial findings of the Holzkirchen police, the reason for the accident is likely to be the not inconsiderable alcohol consumption of the vehicle driver," the police said.

A breath alcohol test carried out on site showed a value of over 1.1 per thousand.

The driver's license was secured on site.

The level crossing was temporarily closed.

The Holzkirchen police station was on site with several strips.

The crashed car had to be recovered from the track area with a crane.

Since oil had spilled, the Holzkirchen volunteer fire brigade also came with three vehicles and removed the contaminated soil.

Criminal proceedings were initiated against the 44-year-old for endangering road traffic, which, according to the police, should result in a lengthy suspension of his driving license in addition to a severe fine.

The material damage to the railway system should amount to around 10,000 euros.

The police estimate that the car that caused the accident was a total loss in the range of 7,500 euros.

The railway line was released again after an hour and a half, around 7 p.m., by the Deutsche Bahn (DB) emergency manager.

According to the police, further repair work on the traffic light system is expected to take place on Wednesday (February 23).
