If you want to go on vacation in Egypt, you have to comply with the current Corona regulations for entry and on site.

You can find out what these are here.

Egypt is a great holiday destination for those who want to soak up the sun on the beach while enjoying impressive sights.

But as in so many countries, a trip to Egypt is currently also associated with corona measures.

But that doesn't stop those who love to travel from planning: According to early bird data, the holiday region of Hurghada and Safaga is one of the most popular destinations in 2022*.

Here you can find out what needs to be considered when entering the country and what restrictions there are in the country due to the corona pandemic.

Entry regulations for Egypt: These corona rules must be observed

All travelers must present a health card either upon arrival in Egypt or upon check-in in Germany.

Increased entry controls and temperature measurements are to be expected at airports, as the Federal Foreign Office informs.

Holidaymakers must be

either

fully vaccinated or tested upon

entry into Egypt

.

Anyone arriving with a vaccination certificate must be able to show proof of two doses of vaccination, unless it is a vaccination with the

Johnson & Johnson vaccine

.

All vaccines approved by the WHO are accepted.

The proof must also contain a QR code.

In the case of the tests, on the other hand, both PCR and antigen rapid tests are permitted.

PCR tests must not be older than 72 hours, and no older than 96 hours when entering the country via Frankfurt Airport.

Rapid antigen tests must not be more than 24 hours old.

The test result must be submitted in English and Arabic and contain a QR code.

There is no test requirement for children under the age of 12.

In Egypt, on the other hand, those who have

recovered are

not equated with those who have been vaccinated

, as is the case in many other countries.

Even in combination with a single vaccination dose, those who have recovered are not allowed to enter the country.

You need either a negative test or at least be vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, since a single dose is sufficient.

Holidaymakers who fly directly to Hurghada, Sharm el Scheikh, Marsa Alam or Marsa Matrouh can also carry out the required PCR test directly upon entry at the respective airports.

However, this is chargeable.

You must then go into mandatory quarantine until the test result is available.

However, the Federal Foreign Office points out that there may be longer waiting times at the airports due to limited test capacities - both for the tests to be carried out and for the results to be issued.

Masks are compulsory in Egypt in public

spaces

.

In addition, public facilities and offices can only be entered with proof of vaccination or a test.

The opening hours may be reduced in many of the facilities as well as in restaurants, shops, museums, sports facilities or parks.

Travelers can be subjected to a health check with temperature measurement or test for the corona virus at any time.

If the test is positive or symptoms are present, isolation at a state hospital may be prescribed.

As the Federal Foreign Office reports, considerable costs can be incurred here.

From the point of view of the federal government, Egypt is currently one of the corona high-risk areas.

Therefore, there is an obligation to register digitally for entry.

Those who are not vaccinated or have recovered must also go into a

10-day quarantine

and can take an early free test on the fifth day at the earliest.
