The tour operator Alltours caused outrage last year when it announced compulsory vaccination for guests of its own hotel chain.
Now comes the end of the action.
In recent months, many tour operators and cruise lines have decided on strict access restrictions - 2G and 1G rules are no longer uncommon.
But when the
tour operator Alltours
announced at the beginning of last year that it would only allow guests with a corona vaccination in its own Allsun hotel chain, he was one of the first.
Calls for a boycott followed on social media, and customers were outraged by the restrictions.
The regulation was then introduced in autumn 2021 – although those who had recovered were also admitted.
Now Alltours is announcing the
end of the 2G rule
: with immediate effect, proof of
vaccination or recovery is no longer required when checking in at hotels in Mallorca, the Canary Islands or Greece
, according to a press release.
However, hygiene and safety measures would continue to apply according to the legal regulations of the individual countries.
Tour operator Alltours relaxes corona measures
The background to the decision is the spread of the omicron variant in many countries.
The virus no longer triggers the dangerous course of the disease, as it did with previous variants.
Therefore, the corona pandemic should be assessed differently.
In addition, many European countries are also reducing their corona measures, and in Denmark these have even been completely eliminated.
Germany is also planning to gradually relax the corona regulations in March.
Because of these developments, “we don’t want to oblige
our guests to be vaccinated,
” explained Dr.
Georg Welbers, Managing Director of Alltours.
"We assume that the omicron variant will cause the corona pandemic to become endemic at least next summer."
Corona pandemic: tour operators and holiday countries in relaxation mode
According to the “current state of knowledge about the Omicron variant”, compulsory vaccination is no longer “up-to-date”.
For example, there would be no vaccination requirement for other viral diseases such as the flu.
The tour operator is not alone with the easing measures.
Cruise lines have also adjusted their measures in recent weeks: Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines are planning to largely abolish the obligation to wear masks on board - or have already done so.
In holiday countries like Spain, masks are no longer compulsory outdoors, Austria now allows entry again with a 3G certificate and Switzerland has lifted almost all corona measures.
