Weather: mega sunshine at carnival?

Forecasts paint a clear picture

After the stormy weather in Germany, the desire for sun is great - especially with a view to carnival.

Can the revelers look forward to pure sunshine?

The weather forecast for the carnival days should please carnival fans.

It's supposed to be changeable again on Thursday (02/24/2022) and Friday (02/25/2022) - but then the sun will come through.

According to forecasts, it will bring a lot of sun.

Saturday, Sunday, Shrove Monday and Shrove Tuesday together there could be up to 40 hours of sunshine, according to wetter.net.

“There is hardly any more sun until the end of the month.

Everything that is still possible comes from the sky, especially for the last three to four days of the month, ”said qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung to the weather portal wetter.net.

There is a catch, however.

Because the nights in Germany are getting cold.

According to Jung, even frost is to be expected.

"Some of the nights will be clear and the air can cool down significantly," explains the weather expert.

But even if it will still be frosty in the morning on Shrove Monday, the sun will come out later.

On the Rhine and Lower Rhine, temperatures could even climb to 13 degrees during the day, says Jung.

And Shrove Tuesday will also be very friendly.

In Cologne, there are strict rules for celebrating carnival.

However, not everything falls into the water - at least the revelers can look forward to the weather.

Although the Shrove Monday parades are also canceled in the carnival strongholds of Mainz, Düsseldorf and Cologne, it is still possible to celebrate in Cologne.

The city has declared the entire city area a "customs zone" for carnival, in which, however, stricter corona rules should apply.

Will it be as nice there as in the rest of the country?

"It seems that NRW is also in the high pressure area at the beginning of the week," says Christian Herold, meteorologist at the German Weather Service (DWD) to RP Online.

According to him, it should remain largely dry and relatively mild on Monday.

However, some rain could fall on Tuesday.

Weather forecast Cologne:

• Saturday, 02/26/2022:

  Sunny and dry with clear skies during the day.

  Maximum temperatures at 7 degrees.

• Sunday, February 27th, 2022:

  Sunny and dry with temperatures from 0 to 9 degrees.

• Shrove Monday, February 28th, 2022 :

  Cloudless, sunny and dry.

  The maximum temperature is 10 degrees.

• Shrove Tuesday, March 1st, 2022 :

  Sunny, occasionally cloudy during the day, maximum temperatures up to 10 degrees

The revelers can also look forward to sunshine in North Rhine-Westphalia.

“This year we would have really great weather for moving.

It's a pity that none are taking place," Jung told Tonight News.

But even if carnival in Mainz and Düsseldorf is largely canceled and in Cologne the 2G-plus rule applies to revelers everywhere in public space: you can still be happy about the nice weather.

Will the good weather continue in March*?

In any case, the weather forecasts for Germany remain exciting – also in March.

Experts are concerned about the first trends.
