"Do not leave brothers on the battlefield": Ukraine calls for donations to help Jewish communities | Israel today

The Jewish communities across Ukraine have been facing a situation they have never been prepared for in the last day - a comprehensive war, in which people who yesterday and Tuesday were able to cope and live a good life become refugees.

Due to the great challenge the communities' funds are dwindling rapidly, and they are calling on the public to join and contribute to them in order to help them save lives.

The Chabad House in Kiev has launched an emergency campaign to help the Jewish community in the city. In light of the significant developments in recent days, the Tikva community in Odessa is also preparing to assist surrounding communities in need of medical equipment, food and evacuation when community members are needed outside the danger zones.

"Tikva" is the largest and oldest community in Ukraine that operates orphanages and educational institutions and assists elsewhere when needed.

Along with the massive organization in recent weeks to purchase basic and humanitarian equipment that will suffice, there are additional requests from communities around for assistance as well.

In the campaign, the citizens of the country want to finance the purchase of additional life-saving equipment.

The funds raised for the campaign will go to funding food medicines and evacuating Jews from danger zones when needed.

In addition, the funding will help operate volunteers within the "Hillel" and "Tree of Life" organizations.

Chaya Yosovich of Tikva stated that "the people of Israel do not leave brothers on the battlefield. It is important now to show solidarity with the Jewish community in Ukraine. This is our time and opportunity as Israelis to express a message of mutual guarantee with Jews who need it."

The Chief Rabbi of Ukraine, Rabbi Moshe Asman, calls on the public to assist Chabad at this difficult time, "so that we can continue to assist thousands of Jews and Israelis, especially those at the forefront of the war in eastern Ukraine."

"The number of refugees is growing every hour. We accept everyone and help them with food, accommodation and other vital needs. This along with security organization for the community's Jews and its remaining institutions in Ukraine. I call on all Jews and Israelis who can help us now - come and be our partners in the great Jewish rescue operation. In Ukraine, "said Rabbi Asman.
