A man had died on the spot in an accident while hiking in the mountains near Oberstdorf.

A second man has now died from his injuries.

Oberstdorf – The accident while hiking near Oberstdorf claimed a second fatality.

The second climber also died.

The 62-year-old had succumbed to his serious injuries in a clinic, the police said on Thursday.

The two men had climbed near Oberstdorf on Tuesday night.

Due to heavy snowfall and gusts of wind at around 100 kilometers per hour, the rescue operation, which lasted several hours, by mountain rescue services, the police and an ambulance had to be temporarily interrupted, said the police spokesman.

One of the two men, a 58-year-old, died on the mountain before the rescue workers could get to him.

The 62-year-old companion came to a hospital in Immenstadt in critical condition with a rescue helicopter.

He was then transferred to a clinic in Augsburg, where he died on Wednesday.

According to the current status of the investigation, the men had climbed from the Seealpe to the Edmund-Probst-Haus and apparently lost their way.
