The United Kingdom opened BNO visa (BNO Visa) residence applications early last year, but it is only limited to those who already hold a BNO, and children who do not hold a BNO can only apply with their parents as relatives.

Some young people whose parents are unwilling to emigrate and immigrate to the UK cannot immigrate to the UK.

The British government today (24th) relaxes the relevant measures, allowing people who do not hold a BNO and have reached the age of 18, as long as their parents hold a BNO, they can also independently apply for a BNO visa to live in the UK. The measures will take effect in October.

Under the old system, parents who are unwilling to immigrate and their children cannot apply by themselves

Under the old arrangement, children without BNOs must apply as relatives and "affiliate" when applying for family members. Therefore, some parents are reluctant to move to the UK, and children without BNOs cannot move to the UK on their own.

Members of the British House of Commons pushed for amendments in November last year to allow people over the age of 18 with one parent who holds a BNO but not themselves to apply for a BNO visa independently, in other words, it is no longer necessary to apply as a family unit.

Since Hong Kong people born after 1997 are no longer eligible to apply for the BNO, the above-mentioned new measures are expected to have the greatest impact on young people aged 18 to 24, who do not need to move to the UK with their parents.

According to the latest figures, 104,000 people applied for BNO visas last year and 15,600 in the fourth quarter.
