Despite Corona, elementary school students in the Erding district are allowed to celebrate carnival again this year - at least a little.

Strictly separated according to classes, but still better than last year, when not even that was possible.

Erding

– The foolish time has reached its peak these days.

Normally, carnival is also celebrated at primary schools.

Last year all events were canceled due to the corona pandemic.

And how is this year?

Some normality is returning to everyday school life, because the children are allowed to celebrate carnival, albeit under stricter conditions and differently than usual.

"It's a big difference to the last real carnival," says Petra Borgolte, director of the elementary school on Grüner Markt.

To keep the risk of infection as low as possible, this year the children can only celebrate in their own classes and not with the whole school.

The parents' association provides donuts for the entire school, and the children are allowed to come to class in masks.

This year there is also a carnival day for the pupils at the Marie-Pettenbeck School in Wartenberg, organized by the SMV.

Principal Michael Braun reports that there will be a hot dog sale.

School donated donuts.

"Unfortunately, it's a little limited this year," regrets Braun, because it's only celebrated on Fridays in the third and fourth periods and only outside the school to minimize the risk of infection.

But the children should definitely be happy that they are no longer homeschooling like last year, but can celebrate carnival at school and with their friends.

“In general, the children are welcome to dress up, but the teacher decides to what extent he or she wants to,” explains Christine Triska-Kowol, principal of the Carl Orff elementary school in Altenerding.

At her school, carnival takes place in all classes, but there are no specific costume themes.

For reasons of hygiene, children are also not allowed to bring personal items such as toy guns.

The big polonaise will also be canceled this year.

"And they always have to wear a mask, but that's sometimes difficult, for example if a student has make-up on their face and then it smudges," adds the headmistress.

The carnival takes place in a similar way at the Walpertskirchen elementary school: the children are allowed to dress up, but only on Nonsensical Thursday.

There is no costume theme here either.

Principal Birgit Hipper explains that last year's carnival celebrations took place online because of the lockdown - "this year we're going to do it face-to-face again.

We comply with the regulations that also apply to regular classes,” she adds.

Due to the current hygiene rules and the high number of corona cases, there will also be no celebration for the whole school at the Klettham primary school.

However, the class teachers could design an individual program for their respective class, reports Rector Ingeborg Bruns.

The students can dress up.

"Our parents' council contributes a donut for each child," explains Bruns.

The situation at the elementary school at Ludwig-Simmet-Anger in Erding is similar.

Here, too, only classes are allowed to celebrate.

The children can also dress up as they wish.

The parents' association also contributes donuts here - much to the delight of the children.
