Immigration and separatism, the fishing grounds of Vox

That Vox feeds on a voter opposed to immigration and separatist tensions is part of the expected profile in the party.

It is less so that those same issues are perceived by the rest of the electorate as important or, worse still, that they attract a significant level of consensus outside their electorate.

In the 40dB survey.

Almost half of those surveyed associate the ultra party with the expulsion of undocumented immigrants or those who have committed crimes.

They also attribute to the formation of Santiago Abascal the will to abolish abortion and euthanasia laws, as well as gender violence, the outlawing of separatist parties or the protection of bullfights and hunting.

More than 20% of those interviewed link Vox with these proposals,

which suggests that the electorate as a whole has a clear idea of what the profile of the far-right formation is.

At the other extreme, less than 10% associate Vox with proposals such as increasing public investment in families, the construction of social housing or an increase in the defense budget.

But as important as knowing which policies are associated with Vox is knowing the degree of support for each one of them by the electorate as a whole.

The general trend that can be seen by analyzing the data is that the more a measure is associated with Vox, the less general support it receives.

Thus, the initiatives that arouse the greatest support, such as the construction of social housing or the increase in public support for families, are not associated with Vox.

Simultaneously, three of the initiatives that best fit with the extreme right - the suppression of abortion and euthanasia laws, the protection of bullfights and hunting and the repeal of the gender violence law - receive the support of less than one in ten respondents.

However, there are two measures that escape this logic.

The outlawing of separatist parties arouses the agreement of 17% of voters, while the expulsion of undocumented immigrants is, by far, the measure associated with Vox and that arouses the greatest degree of agreement.

A quarter of those surveyed are in favor of this proposal, which, furthermore, is the one that a greater number links with the ideology of the extreme right.

If there was only one policy that could be chosen that would be associated with Vox while obtaining the agreement of a significant part of the electorate, it would be this one.

The joint reading of the data makes it possible to detect the possible fishing grounds of the extreme right, that is, those issues with which it is associated and which, at the same time, receive the approval of a significant number of voters.

The expulsion of immigrants and the outlawing of separatist parties would make up the two main fishing grounds for Vox.

Both measures receive the support of more than a third of the voters of the PP and Cs.
