Join the emerging technology field with rich practical experience

New technologies drive continuous innovation in the financial services industry. All kinds of start-ups and large financial service institutions are actively developing financial technologies through artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain (Blockchain), cloud computing (Cloud Computing) and big data (Big Data). ) and other technologies to provide customers with more diversified and efficient services.

Wayne, a graduate of the Higher Diploma in Information Technology from IVE, is currently working as a software engineer in a listed multinational financial technology company, responsible for building a cryptocurrency trading system and providing cryptocurrency-related financial services to different international investment institutions.

"Blockchain technology is an important part of fintech to create a digital ledger that can be stored on a network, thereby eliminating the traditional arrangements of a middleman or central authority to process, authorize or verify transactions," Wayne said. Keep encrypted information and ensure personal privacy. Recently, NFT (Non-fungible Token) has become a hot topic, and it is also driven by blockchain technology." Wayne is currently responsible for the architecture design of the cryptocurrency trading system, For example, he wrote automated settlement programs for the trading platform; he also participated in the daily system maintenance work, including improving the security, flexibility and scalability of the system, etc. Wayne said: "The company's customers come from all over the world, providing them with 24/7 services. Hours of safe and stable financial transaction services are very important to the company's goodwill."

Seize the opportunity to study and get a scholarship to study at a university in the UK

When asked why Wayne joined the popular new IT job, he smiled and said, "I have been interested in computers since I was a child. I have learned to make animations and write game programs when I was in primary and secondary school. Although I was admitted to statistics courses in other colleges after the public test that year. , but my brother who graduated with a higher diploma from IVE understood my interests and encouraged me to enroll in the IVE course. He believed that I could learn practical skills, and my academic qualifications would be recognized by universities and the industry. In addition to continuing to study for a bachelor's degree, it would also help me to join the profession. .” While studying for the Higher Diploma, Wayne had the opportunity to get in touch with professional knowledge such as database and program development, and also gained rich practical experience from many internships.

"The most grateful thing is that I have successfully won the Hevia Foundation Scholarship specially designed for IVE graduates, which supports me to go to university in the UK to broaden my horizons and engage in more diversified IT fields and knowledge." Technology and Emerging The industry is developing rapidly. Although Wayne has the knowledge and work experience, he continues to learn new knowledge and successfully obtained the certification of cloud technology solution architect and blockchain system developer. He said: "When studying at IVE, through different practical opportunities , which has cultivated my curiosity about things and an attitude of continuous learning, which is very helpful for me to join emerging majors such as fintech and cryptocurrency.” In addition to fintech, blockchain technology can also be applied to different industries, Wayne cites as an example : "For example, digitally signing smart contracts for real estate sales can also be extended to different applications such as accounting and auditing, personal identity authentication, etc., to promote the development of smart cities. If young people are interested in IT, they should study hard and grasp the trend of digitalization in the industry. , there will be a broader space for career development in the future.”

The course content is in line with the industry to grasp the new opportunities of the engineering industry

All walks of life are accelerating digitalization, and the engineering industry is also widely adopting new technologies, such as digital construction technologies such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), to improve the quality of construction projects, manage progress and control costs.

Leo Choi, a graduate of the Higher Diploma in Architecture at IVE, has been exposed to BIM technology since he was studying for the Higher Diploma. He recalled: "At that time, BIM technology was not yet popular in the Hong Kong engineering industry. Software and digital drawing programs transform the designed buildings from floor plans into 3D design models.” Leo also seized the internship opportunity to learn the application of BIM technology in the design of large-scale residential projects and to solve potential construction problems.

Seeing the development trend of digitalization in the engineering industry, Leo seized the opportunity to join the BIM profession.

"I was familiar with the application of digital technology during my studies. After graduating from the Higher Diploma, I was hired by a multinational engineering consultancy construction company." Leo is working part-time while studying for a bachelor's degree. He is currently working as an assistant architect in a construction engineering company under a listed group. Information Simulation Manager.

Break through the traditional architectural design mode to improve construction quality and efficiency with technology

Leo has participated in the design of various residential and redevelopment projects. One of his most unforgettable projects is his participation in the Housing Society's first housing for the elderly built using the "Assembly and Construct" (MiC) method.

He said: "MiC is an emerging construction method in recent years. Compared with traditional construction projects, MiC pays more attention to early planning, design and preparation. Our team will use BIM technology to accurately indicate the materials and dimensions of prefabricated components in the 3D building model. Iteratively revised the design and simulated construction procedures to ensure the accuracy of the building structure, electrical and mechanical, and plumbing design, and predicted and resolved most potential problems before construction, effectively improving the quality and efficiency of construction.”

Leo said that the industry continues to introduce innovative technologies: "The engineering industry is now using Revit, Navisworks, Fuzor and other programs, allowing the entire project team to view project designs, track project progress and manage buildings in 3D, 4D and even VR (virtual reality) modes. Cost, etc., the technology of the industry has become the general trend.” Leo has also just completed a master’s degree from the University of Hong Kong, further improving the knowledge and skills of engineering management: “The development of smart engineering is rapid, and it is necessary to always learn the latest professional knowledge and technology applications, and more with the industry. Only by communicating with people can we keep pace with the times.” He also plans to obtain the professional qualifications of a recognized building information simulation manager, and will contribute to managing engineering projects, training BIM talents and promoting the application of new technologies in the future.
