The die seems to have been cast: Apparently, US giant Intel will soon be settling in tranquil Saxony-Anhalt.
A Bavarian community would lose out.
Magdeburg - The huge Tesla factory ("Gigafactory") in Berlin-Grünheide is not yet in operation, as information is circulating about the next US giant planning to build a production facility in eastern Germany.
According to media reports, the US semiconductor manufacturer Intel wants to press ahead with the construction of a chip factory in Magdeburg (Saxony-Anhalt).
As a result, there is a spirit of optimism in the region: If the project were to be implemented, it would be a "huge coup," said district manager Thorsten Gröger from the IG Metall trade union*: "It would be extremely gratifying if Intel were to settle in or near Magdeburg."

reports a massive investment volume of 80 to 90 billion euros.
According to the TV broadcaster, this would be the largest company settlement in the federal state since the German reunification in 1990.
There is hope for a "job magnet": According to speculation, around 12,000 new jobs could boost the domestic economy if it were to be implemented.
The official decision on this location is expected to be announced next week.
"There is no doubt that Intel has the potential to attract many skilled workers or to counteract a brain drain," explained Gröger.
On the other hand, the Bavarian community of Penzing can breathe a sigh of relief: Because this location would be eliminated for Intel's new production facility, which also involves massive subsidies*.

It was only in January 2022 that the US group Intel announced the construction of two new semiconductor factories in the US state of Ohio.
The investment costs for this project amount to around 20 billion dollars (17.6 billion euros).
The construction of these factories should start at the end of the current year.
