Guinness Book of Records: Giant snowman Jakob - does the Bavarian community break the record?

The cult snowman Jakob is being created again on the market square in Bischofsgrün.

Will the community break the record of 12.65 meters this year?

Bischofsgrün - On Friday (February 25th) the time has come: Snowman Jakob is coming.

The Bischofsgrüner Kult-Bürger has been in construction since 1985.

Only last year there was none because of the corona pandemic.

The anticipation of the citizens of Bischofsgrün (Bayreuth district) is therefore all the greater this year.

The work with shovels and excavators will continue until Friday afternoon.

Will the municipality manage to break its own record from 2015?

At that time, Jakob was proud of a height of 12.65 meters and a circumference of around 30 meters.

For comparison: The largest snowman in the world made it into the "Guinness Book of Records" at 38.04 meters.

Bischofsgrün: Giant snowman Jakob is coming - follow live via webcam

In 2022, the giant snowman should be a symbol of hope, a sign for the regional service providers, reports the BR.

A snowman for everyone who believed in the region, so they say from Bischofsgrün.

The community is eagerly awaiting the measurement of the height of the giant colossus.

"We are proud of our snowman builders," says a Facebook post from the community.

On Friday morning, a huge mountain of snow could already be seen in the pictures on the market square.

The Snowman Festival usually takes place on Shrove Monday.

Just like last year, this time it will be waived because of Corona.

Snowman Jakob in bishop's green: Horst Heidenreich came up with the idea

Horst Heidenreich had the idea for the snowman.

The weather was too bad for skiing back then, so Heidenreich built a snowman on the market square in Bischofgrün.

The first Jakob was around three meters high, reports the BR.

A new Jacob is born every year.

Heidenreich is always there with his son.

He's there again this year.

"The master is here," writes the community on Facebook.

In addition, a photo of Heidenreich in front of the snow pile.

The webcam is updated regularly.

The municipality is also busy posting pictures of the current status on social media. In 2018, Jakob came second in the "height ranking list" with his 12.15 meters.

It remains to be seen whether he will break the record this year.
