A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck north of the island of Sumatra in Indonesia on Friday, the United States Seismological Institute (USGS) announced.
The earthquake occurred at 01:35 GMT at a depth of 12 kilometers and 70 kilometers from the city of Bukittingi, located in the province of West Sumatra, the USGS said.

No tsunami warning was issued, and no casualties or damage were initially reported, but the tremor was felt in neighboring Riau and North Sumatra provinces.
