More and more regions of Ukraine are now under Russian dominance.

A new map shows in detail how far the troops have advanced on the second day of this war.

KIEV - Attacks by air and sea on the entire country made up the first wave of the war.

Maps on the first day testified to the massive number of attacks by Russia falling on Ukraine.

But now the second wave of the Ukraine war* has started - and with it the actual ground war begins.

As the latest analyzed data shows, Russia is gaining control of more and more Ukrainian territory - and seems to be advancing ever further towards Kiev.

Our current data map now shows in detail which areas are already controlled by Russia.

These were either conquered, occupied by separatists or, like Crimea, annexed beforehand.

The troops advanced into Ukrainian territory from three directions and occupied the first areas in each case.

On Friday (February 25th, 2022) there were already many reports of attacks and ground movements from other parts of the country.

However, according to all available sources, the situation there was not yet so far that the Ukrainian army would have withdrawn and Russia has air and ground sovereignty.

How Russia gradually conquered territories in the Ukraine war

At the same time, on the second day of the war, an initial assessment of the fighting so far can be drawn.

Accordingly, Russia has succeeded in conquering areas in the north around Chernobyl and the strategically important Snake Island in the south.

Our map also shows that other areas of Ukraine are now under Russian control.

These include Crimea, which has been annexed since 2014, as well as the separatist areas of Donetsk, Luhansk and Transnistria - and the areas newly conquered by Russia in the Ukraine war.

In addition, our data analysis from Ukrainian authorities has shown how massively these ministries’ websites are being attacked in the cyber war that is taking place at the same time.

At the same time, massive fighting continues across the country, both from the sea and from the air.

The Rochan Consulting Institute currently assumes that the conquest of Kiev is Russia's primary goal.

As a result, Ukrainian troops in other parts of the country could surrender - and Putin would have control of the entire country.

We will update the above map again and again with major changes - as a document of a war in the middle of Europe.

Our data, sources and methods

The starting point for marking the areas controlled by Russia in any form on our data map is the provider LiveUAMap, which, for example, also provides so-called geodata for a fee.

LiveUAMap is not an authority, but an association of investigative journalists from Eastern Europe.

They are also monitoring 30 other conflict regions.

LiveUAMap captures and analyzes a variety of different sources.

According to the self-description, these analyzes are used by the United Nations, among others.

Even if the provider is classified as reputable, there is no guarantee for the complete accuracy of the data, especially in highly dynamic times of war.

That's why we checked all the data with other independent sources.
