The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency sent a notification to the British aviation authorities asking them to comply with the provisions of the Air Service Agreement.
And the Russian Agency for Air Transport warned that Moscow could, after sanctions against Aeroflot, impose similar countermeasures.
The agency indicated that British airlines must operate 70 transit flights in Russian airspace, in addition to two flights on the London-Moscow route, on February 25 alone.
The Russian side reserves the right to implement similar measures in accordance with the provisions of the intergovernmental agreement in order to observe the principle of parity and provide equal rights to the airlines concerned.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in Parliament yesterday that London, due to the situation in Ukraine, decided to ban the activities of Aeroflot in the United Kingdom and imposed sanctions on a number of companies affiliated with the Russian military-industrial complex.
