The Russian Foreign Ministry vowed to respond appropriately to the European Union's decision to impose sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"We will respond to the sanctions as we always do, everything we will do as it suits us," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Russia 1 channel today, adding that "the sanctions are evidence of weakness and inability to use diplomacy, politics and negotiations."
And the European Union's foreign policy official, Josep Borrell, had announced that the bloc's foreign ministers had decided to include President Putin and Foreign Minister Lavrov on the EU's sanctions lists.
