Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expects the Russian army to attack Kiev on Saturday night.
In a statement, which the dpa and AFP news agencies reported unanimously late on Friday evening, he called on the population to resolutely defend the capital.
"The fate of the country is being decided right now," he said.
"The enemy will use all their strength to break our resistance," Zelenskyj said.
"Tonight they plan to storm Kiev." He called on all Ukrainians to "stop the enemy wherever possible."
The population should remove all special signs that saboteurs put on streets and houses.
"Burn the enemy military technology with everything at your disposal!"
If the attackers also target kindergartens, they should be prevented from doing so, Zelenskyj continued.
“All prayers are with our soldiers.
We believe in them.
Take care of her!«
