The death toll from the 6.2-magnitude earthquake that hit Indonesia's West Sumatra province has risen to seven, with 85 injured.
The quake forced 5,000 people to leave their homes and take shelter in 35 evacuation centers and destroyed tens of thousands of buildings, homes and infrastructure facilities in West Sumatra province, Xinhua quoted National Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency spokesman Abdul Mahari as saying.
The spokesman added that search and rescue operations involving all policemen, disaster agency employees, military personnel, rescue workers and volunteers are still underway to search for survivors.
An earlier toll had indicated that two people were killed and dozens injured in the earthquake that struck western Indonesia.
