US President Joe Biden today ordered the deployment of more troops in Europe against the backdrop of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, at a time when the White House acknowledged that it was not in the interest of the United States to wage war against Russia and that it would not deploy troops on Ukrainian soil.
Reuters quoted Biden as saying in a statement today that he had ordered "the deployment of additional forces to enhance the capabilities of the United States in Europe," adding that "the United States will defend all NATO regions," as he put it.
For her part, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told a news conference, "It is not in our interest to be at war with Russia, so we will not send American forces to Ukraine."
It is noteworthy that the Russian armed forces began yesterday a military operation in Ukraine in response to the request of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics to end the attacks by the forces of the Ukrainian regime on them.
