Under the banner of peace the world is still in order.

People around the world demonstrated against Russia's attack on Ukraine on Saturday, like here in Milan.

Thousands of Italians gathered in front of the cathedral and unfurled a meter-long rainbow flag.

A similar picture a good 800 kilometers north-east in Vienna: Lots of blue and yellow, the national colors of Ukraine – and one or two posters slandering Putin.

Masha, protester:

»We are here today because the war in Europe is unacceptable.

We're here because people are dying on the front lines.

And we are here to support these people.

We must stop Putin.

It's unacceptable!

War is unacceptable!”

Like this protester in Vienna, many of the people at the protests have Ukrainian roots.

They are visibly upset by the news of the fighting in Kiev.

Many still have relatives in Ukraine.

This woman is one of hundreds protesting in New York's Times Square that day.

For minutes she holds up a sign that says Putin is a murderer.

At some point she can't anymore.

»USA hold your promises.«

Meanwhile, in front of the White House in Washington, demonstrators are reminding the US government of historic obligations.

Man with megaphone:

"Please don't forget the promises of 1994 - Budapest Memorandum."

With the Budapest Memorandum, Russia and the United States committed themselves to respecting the existing borders of Kazakhstan, Belarus and Ukraine in return for renouncing nuclear weapons.

In Berlin, people demonstrated in front of the Russian embassy.

Suddenly Gitanas Nauseda, the President of Lithuania, joins them.

He comes from a visit to Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

NATO member Lithuania borders directly on Belarus, which supports Russia in invading Ukraine.

Gitanas Nauseda, President of Lithuania:

»If Ukraine falls today, Vladimir Putin will be at our door tomorrow.

We have to understand that.

Thanks very much!

Glory to Ukraine!«

Peace demonstrations are also planned in many German cities on Sunday.
