Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, stressed that Russia is not fighting a war against Ukraine, but rather is carrying out an operation to protect the population of the Donbass region and evacuate Ukraine from the Nazis.
Russia Today website quoted Nebenzia as saying during a UN Security Council session today that Russia voted against the draft resolution on its military operation in Ukraine due to its “anti-Russian nature,” explaining that the draft resolution ignores the events of the 2014 seizure of power by “extremist nationalists in Ukraine and the crimes they committed, as well as Western support for them.
Nebenzia stressed that the Russian forces will carry out their tasks in Ukraine soon, and denied that the Russian army bombed Ukrainian cities.
The representative of Russia referred to a large number of misleading media reports, denying in this regard the authenticity of the information about the bombing of the kindergarten in Ukraine, which was reported by the media.
Nebenzia added that "extremist nationalists use civilians as human shields" and that the Ukrainian forces deploy rocket launchers in residential areas, noting that 4 civilian residents were killed as a result of Ukrainian shelling on the Donbass region.
Russia used its veto in the UN Security Council and blocked a draft resolution condemning the Russian military operation in Ukraine, while 11 countries voted in favor of the draft resolution and 3 countries abstained.
