Beaten in Scotland and then victorious in Italy, England signed a second success in the Six Nations Tournament, winning at Twickenham against Wales (23-19).
The XV de la Rose scored a try by Dombrandt (42nd), against three for the Welsh by Adams (53rd), Tompkins (60th) and Hardy (80th).
But the Welsh reaction was too late, the boot of Marcus Smith, the young English opener, had already made the difference with six penalties.
In that match, substitute scrum-half Ben Youngs, who came on in the 62nd minute, became England's most capped player in history with 115 caps, one more than prop Jason Leonard.
Swept away at the opening by Ireland before winning against Scotland, the XV of Leek, defending champion, concedes a second defeat in this edition and says goodbye to his dreams of victory in the 2022 Tournament. Wales had made several important changes for this shock, coach Wayne Pivac reshuffling his third line and resting his nugget, winger Louis Rees-Zammit, in favor of Josh Adams.
Choices that did not pay off.
