Strüngmann Hotel in Bad Wiessee: preparatory work for the giant construction site

The Strüngmann family has set the first visible signs: trees and wood were cleared on the site on the Wiesseer Seepromenade, where a luxury hotel complex is to be built from 2023.

– A few trees had to go so that what Bad Wiessee has been waiting for a long time can finally take place.

More than ten years ago, in December 2012, the municipality of Bad Wiessee sold entrepreneur Thomas Strüngmann the former casino site in the hope that he, as an investor with the highest standards, would implement a hotel project there that would put the spa town and the entire Tegernsee Valley in a new league.

The waiting and the many unfulfilled announcements made people tired, says Mayor Robert Kühn.

But now you are actually at the starting point.

He is happy about the realization of the lighthouse project.

The opening of the Strüngmann Hotel is announced for 2026

Last week, the Wiesseer municipal council dealt with the plans for Athos, the Strüngmann family office.

A hotel complex with 100 rooms and a five-star-plus standard is being built.

The operator will be Claus Sendlinger with his company Slow Hospitality.

The opening is announced for 2026.

Felling work on the Strüngmann site coordinated with the nature conservation authority

The clearing of the trees on the Strüngmann site, which includes the casino site, the Lederer site and the former Hotel Wittelsbach, marks the beginning of the work.

The felling work had to be done with consideration for nature at this time of year.

According to Kühn, the two largest trees, a copper beech and an ash, were already damaged and could not be saved.

The district office as the lower nature conservation authority approved the clearing, for which a report from the expert is available.

The development of the building site will then begin in May, as Athos spokesman Stephan Heller explains.

The excavation of the excavation pit will no longer start in autumn, but only at the beginning of 2023.

The construction site must be equipped with sheet piling all around

The massive earthworks are extremely complex.

Sheet piling is required around the construction site.

"This is necessary for dewatering so that the lake and the surface water do not run into the excavation pit," explains Heller.

Once the excavators are there, everything happens in quick succession.

The ensemble consists of 21 buildings and is intended to retain the character of a village that has grown over time.

The houses are called, for example, art barn, inn, forest pool and swimming barn.

They will be erected in stages from south to north.

"This enables us to start shell construction of the first building in mid-2023, while excavation is still underway in the north," reports Heller.

The mega construction site demands a lot from the residents and the whole town.

"It will be difficult times for us," Mayor Kühn knows.

Mainly because with the development of the former Grühn area at the Hotel Ritter and the senior citizens' residential complex at the former Hotel Edelweiß, two more major construction sites are polluting the area.

But with a view to the goal of preparing the place for the future, this time can be survived, says Kühn.

Meanwhile, Athos assures that the company is doing everything possible to keep the disturbance to the neighbors as low as possible.

"Among other things, we make sure that the construction process is very fast and coordinated, that we use state-of-the-art technology and low-emission construction machines," explains Heller.

On site, careful attention will be paid to constantly cleaning the access roads to and from the construction site.

The southern spa park and lake promenade remain accessible

According to Heller, the southern Kurpark and the lake promenade will remain open to walkers throughout the construction period.

As soon as the situation allows, Athos wants to present the planning with all the details to the public.
