China today launched a Long March 8 rocket to put 22 satellites into space, setting a local record for launching the largest number of satellites on a single rocket.
According to Xinhua, the rocket was launched from the Wenchang spacecraft launch site in south China's Hainan Province, before sending the satellites into their designated orbits.
These satellites will be mainly used for commercial services of remote sensing, marine environment monitoring, forest fire prevention and disaster mitigation.
This mission represented the 409th flight of the Long March carrier rocket series.
Last December, China sent a satellite to transmit data into orbit from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan Province, southwest China.
