A Turkish man's cigarette stop almost became fatal after he fell into a sinkhole at a depth of about 6 meters - and if that's not terrible enough then an automatic vending machine immediately fell on him.

The New York Post reported that security camera footage of this bizarre chain of events, which occurred earlier this month in Istanbul, is exploding online these days.

"Suddenly the ground I stepped on collapsed under my feet," Omar Kakgan told the Newsflash news agency, adding that he simply left his store to talk on the phone and smoke in front of the business when there were no customers in the area.

The documentation begins innocently when Cakgan is seen nonchalantly chatting on the phone and smoking a cigarette.

The disaster occurs when he passes a pair of vending machines for drinks and snacks, when suddenly the ground opens up under his feet and he falls down like a scene from a disaster movie.

If all this is not traumatic enough, one of the machines falls after him into the pit, and he wins a shower of cans on his head.

Despite the devastation and the frightening sight, according to local media reports he came out of it safely, except for a few minor injuries.

"Nearby store owners and passers-by reported the incident to authorities and I was rescued by firefighters 25 minutes later," he said.

Officials are now investigating what caused the sinkhole to appear, but there are estimates that a well that was previously covered with asphalt was in place.

To date it has not been reported whether following the incident he is considering quitting smoking.
