Corona in Germany: Incidence continues to fall - new hope for vaccination in several federal states

The corona numbers in Germany continue to decline.

With the start of the Novavax vaccinations in several federal states, there is hope for new impetus.

Berlin – The nationwide seven-day incidence has fallen again.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value on Monday morning as 1238.2.

For comparison: the day before the value was 1240.3.

A week ago, the nationwide incidence was 1346.8 (previous month: 1073.0).

The health authorities in Germany reported a total of 62,349 new infections with the corona virus * to the RKI within one day.

A week ago there were 73,867 infections.

However, the RKI points out that no data was transmitted from Brandenburg yesterday.

Corona in Germany: Incidence continues to fall

Experts also assume a high number of cases that are not recorded in the RKI data.

One reason is the limited capacity of health authorities, for example, and contacts are often only tracked to a limited extent.

In addition, according to the ALM laboratory association, there is now a larger number of people whose corona infection * is no longer confirmed by a PCR test - these infections are therefore not included in the official statistics.

The RKI also recorded 24 new deaths within one day.

The number of patients infected with Corona * who came to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was given by the RKI * on Friday at 6.28 (Thursday: 6.27).

Among them are many people with a positive corona test who have another main illness.

However, the value is not reported on weekends.

Corona vaccinations: Novavax start in several federal states

With the beginning of the new weeks, people in other federal states can be vaccinated with the new Corona vaccine from Novavax*.

From Monday this will be possible in Rhineland-Palatinate, Thuringia, Berlin and a district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

This was the result of a survey by the German Press Agency among the responsible authorities in all federal states.

In Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Saarland and partly in North Rhine-Westphalia there were already vaccination options with the vaccine at the weekend.

The other federal states want to offer Novavax vaccinations in the course of the week.

The first deliveries of the preparation arrived last Thursday (February 24) at the Bundeswehr in Quakenbrück, Lower Saxony.

Delivery to the federal states finally began on Friday (February 25).

The state health ministers had spoken out in favor of initially offering the vaccine primarily to unvaccinated health care workers.

Because in the industry, the facility-related vaccination requirement will take effect from March 15th.

The vaccine was injected at the weekend, but also to people who were not prioritized.

The federal government hopes that the vaccine from the US manufacturer Novavax will give new impetus to the vaccination campaign in Germany.

The agent was approved as the fifth corona vaccine * in the EU - for people aged 18 and over.

Two doses are injected about three weeks apart.

It is a protein vaccine - so it is based on a different technology than the mRNA corona vaccines from Biontech*/Pfizer and Moderna* that have mostly been used up to now.
