Germany sends a signal for peace in the Ukraine war: In Berlin, hundreds of thousands gather in front of the Brandenburg Gate and protest against Vladimir Putin.

Update from February 27, 5:55 p.m .:

Among the demonstrators at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin there are apparently also high-ranking German politicians.

Even from the federal government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).

Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) posted a photo of himself standing in the middle of the huge demo with more than 100,000 participants in the capital.

The corona expert wears a face mask in accordance with the rules.

The Rhinelander wrote on Twitter about his post: “We are demonstrating for freedom and democracy, and thus against the narcissistic dictator Putin.

Protesting isn't everything.

But it is part of it.

It shows our attitude.”

First report from February 27th:

Munich/Berlin – Such images have not been known for a long time in the corona virus pandemic *: In Berlin, well over 100,000 people have gathered between the Brandenburg Gate and Alexanderplatz to fight the Ukraine war * and the aggression by Russia's ruler Vladimir Putin to demonstrate.

Because the fighting continues unabated.

A police spokesman put the number of participants at the beginning of the rally early on Sunday afternoon at at least 100,000 - and the trend is rising sharply.

As

Der Tagesspiegel

reports, the Berlin police spoke of “almost 100 percent occupancy” for the official event area between the Großer Stern and the Brandenburg Gate.

The officials are trying to make the protesters aware of the pandemic conditions.

Among other things, there is a mask requirement, which according to numerous photos of the event is apparently also observed.

Originally, 20,000 participants were expected to demonstrate against the Ukraine conflict, the report continues.

The police are therefore considering expanding the area to Alexanderplatz.

The organizers themselves even speak of 500,000 people.

In addition to their demands for peace, the demonstrators are also targeting the Russian President.

“Stop the war” is read on self-made signs.

And: "Why not just peace?" One demonstrator held up a sign that read: "I'm Russian.

I am against war.” Agency photos show the young woman crying.

Meanwhile, more photos from the demonstration cause a stir on social media.

For example, a Twitter user posted a photo showing the Großer Tiergarten from above - presumably from the Friedenssäule.

And on which the crowds of people in the well-known city park in the Mitte district are shown.

Demonstrations against the Ukraine war and for peace also took place in other cities this Sunday.

For example, in the Bavarian capital of Munich, a demo was announced on the central Marienplatz.

There had already been several peace demonstrations in the Isar metropolis in the days before.

More and more regions of Ukraine are now under Russian dominance.

A new map reveals in detail how far the troops of this war have advanced.
