Hundreds of Ukrainian construction workers beg: "Let us return to our homeland" Israel today

2022-02-28T10:13:13.136Z

"Real Estate Today" has learned that at the same time hundreds of Ukrainian workers who have already arrived in Israel want to return to their homeland and help fight against the "Russian bear" • The possibility of bringing workers from Nepal and Vietnam is now being examined

The Russo-Ukrainian War Affects the Local Real Estate Market:

Today's Real Estate has learned that following the fighting in Europe, the arrival of 850 Ukrainian workers in Israel has been suspended.

These workers were to join the 2,500 Ukrainian workers already in Israel and integrated into the construction industry.

It should be noted that Ukraine and Moldova have become the two main arenas today for construction workers in Israel, and the fear of tensions in Moldova as well, which is estimated to become the next arena for Russian invasion, certainly affects the labor force in Israel.

The new phenomenon will undoubtedly harm the manpower situation for the construction industry, due to the shortage of working hands.

As is well known, the Chinese, as a result of the bilateral agreements, are no longer coming to Israel.

The country is now considering following the shortage from China and Ukraine bringing in construction workers for the first time from Vietnam and Nepal.

"Want to go back to fighting the Russians and take care of my family"

Concurrent with the freeze on the bringing of workers from Ukraine, "Real Estate Today" has learned that hundreds of workers already in the country are asking to return to their homeland to fight alongside their brothers and protect their families.

"My family is in Odessa," says Vlad, a construction worker in Modi'in.

"I'll send them money like this for a month but now it's not an economic question anymore and I asked to come back to fight the Russians and take care of my family."

In the employment centers in the country, there are two main types of inquiries from Ukrainian workers: some want to fight back to defend the homeland, and some are worried about the ability to transfer money to families.

There are also those who have finished work and returned, and want to bring forward the release of the deposit in order to transfer it to Ukraine.

At the same time, there are construction workers who went on vacation and were "stuck" in Ukraine.

The chairman of the Center for International Immigration and Absorption, Arnon Mantver, responded to the situation, saying "this uncertainty necessitates the expansion of bilateral agreements in the field of construction to other countries and the acceleration of efforts to locate and train skilled personnel from abroad in the construction professions."

As you may recall, about a month ago, Real Estate Today reported that an Israeli delegation led by the Population and Immigration Authority arrived in Ukraine to recruit hundreds of construction workers for work in Israel.

The representatives held a series of meetings with the government employment service and local representatives and attended the process of sorting the workers, in which about 850 candidates from Ukraine were successfully tested, who were supposed to arrive in Israel, but now their future is known to be uncertain.
