A week after Abbott's recall, Abbott is performing tonight (Monday) a voluntary recall of a Similac product called PM60 / 40, designed for babies with kidney problems.

The company also stated that no complaints were received in Israel regarding this product.

These compounds are intended for special medical conditions, and are not common shelf products.

The Ministry of Health updated on the company's call and clarified that these are special baby food compounds that are only sold by a pharmacist.

A statement from the Ministry of Health stated that "Abbott is updating a voluntary collection of a product called Similac PM60 / 40 from only one production series Batch No. 27032K80 Valid April 1, 2023. The product is given only on medical prescription and is intended for infants with kidney problems."

The collection was made after learning of the death of a baby in the US, who was found to be positive for Cronobacter sakazaki and fed on Similac PM 60/40 from this batch.

This case is still under investigation and at this stage the source of the infection has not yet been determined.

No complaints have been received in Israel regarding this product, "the company said.

The announcement also states that "the current move has nothing to do with Abbott's other nutritional products distributed in Israel, including Similac products manufactured in other factories and are safe to use. Abbott conducts comprehensive quality tests on all batches of baby food compounds, including microbiology tests before release from the plant. "In tests performed by the manufacturer before their release from the factory, in another test upon arrival in Israel according to the requirements of the legislation, as well as in repeated tests performed recently - the product was found to be negative for bacterial inventions."

As mentioned, about a week ago, Abbott announced a recall of baby milk substitutes with a prescription it produces.

This is after four babies, including one who died, were hospitalized in the US hospitals after being infected with the Kronobacter, Skazaki and Salmona bacteria. At a plant in Michigan.
