Ukraine conflict: negotiations with Russia are delayed - "I do not believe in a result"

After Russia invaded Ukraine, war broke out.

Now Moscow and Kyiv want to come together for negotiations - despite major hurdles.

Kyiv/Moscow – A number of hurdles stand in the way of peace negotiations in the Ukraine conflict amid ongoing fighting.

Nevertheless, the talks should start on Monday morning (February 28th, 2022) with some delay.

The delegation from Russia has already arrived.

"I don't believe in the outcome of this meeting," said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy ahead of the talks.

Still, he wants to try.

Ukrainian politician David Arakhamiya wrote on Facebook: We will listen to the proposals.

And then we will discuss whether it is worth it or not.” Neither Zelenskyy nor the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, want to take part in the talks.

Instead, delegations from the two countries want to meet in Belarus, on the border with Ukraine.

The location also poses problems.

There is speculation that Belarus, as a partner country of Russia, is going to war in Ukraine with its own soldiers.

According to reports, paratroopers from the country were ordered to fly to Ukraine.

Belarusian President Lukashenko had previously assured that he did not want to intervene, as reported by the Ukrainian press agency Unian.

After Vladimir Putin ordered Russia to invade Ukraine, both countries want to negotiate.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy does not believe in a result.

Negotiations in the Russia-Ukraine conflict delayed by fighting

Despite the many hurdles, the delegations still want to get together.

The negotiators from Russia are said to have already arrived at the meeting point, while the Ukrainians are expected on Monday morning.

Originally, both sides wanted to meet on Sunday.

The meeting was reportedly difficult due to the fighting.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has been raging since February 24 after Putin ordered the invasion of the neighboring country.

Ukraine offers bitter resistance.

The West responded to the invasion with unprecedented sanctions against Russia.
