Russia threatens to use nuclear forces in Ukraine conflict

The United States is therefore consulting with allies on a joint response.

The UN is also alarmed.

Washington DC/New York – US President Joe Biden* wants to discuss the Ukraine conflict* with allies on Monday (February 28th, 2022).

In relation to Russia's attack and the "developments", a "joint reaction" should also be coordinated, as the White House said on Sunday evening (local time, February 27, 2022).

So far, however, there is no information about who exactly is participating in the conference call.

It should start at 5:15 p.m. CET.

Discussing the developments in the Ukraine conflict is likely to relate primarily to the threat made by Russian President Vladimir Putin*.

He had indirectly stated that he wanted to put his nuclear forces on alert - and cited "aggressive statements" by high-ranking representatives of NATO* states and "unfriendly" steps by the West against Russia as the reason.

According to Federal Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD*), Putin's nuclear threat in the war with Ukraine must be "taken seriously".

UN member countries can comment on Russia attack in Ukraine conflict

The USA and the EU had decided on tough sanctions against Russia because of Russia's war of aggression.

At the same time, Ukraine* had been promised more weapons.

In the war with Ukraine, Switzerland could freeze Russian assets.

The UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council will also meet for emergency meetings on Monday (February 28th, 2022).

At the General Assembly in New York from 4 p.m. CET, all 193 member states will be able to state their position on Russia*'s attack on Ukraine.

Ukraine conflict: UN votes on statement strongly condemning Russia

In addition, they will vote on a draft resolution prepared by the EU and Ukraine.

The statement sharply condemns Russia's behavior towards Ukraine, according to the afp news agency, which has the draft.

According to the afp, the authors hope that the draft will be supported by more than 100 countries.

A similar resolution by the USA* had been vetoed by Russia at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Friday.

However, Russia cannot prevent the adoption of the resolution in the General Assembly – it is not binding for that.

Ukraine-Russia conflict: France calls for ceasefire and humanitarian access

Meanwhile, France * is planning additional steps: The EU country wants to present a draft resolution to the UN Security Council in the emergency session from 9 p.m. that calls for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine.

This must "precede any peace negotiations," said Paris.

In addition, the draft mentions unconditional access to humanitarian aid.

A result of both votes is expected on Tuesday (03/01/2022).

Russia's war in Ukraine is met with disapproval in most parts of the world.

However, Belarus, for example, could become involved in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

In addition, there are also countries that take a neutral stance or even support Russia's attack:

rejection of Russia's attack

Countries with a neutral attitude

approval for Russia

Europe

China

Syria

Africa

Brazil

Cuba

North America

India

Venezuela

The threat by Russian President Vladimir Putin to put his nuclear forces on alert shocked most of the United Nations.

UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric described the idea of a nuclear conflict as "simply unimaginable", as he told the news agency afp.
