“
US nationals should consider leaving Russia immediately through commercial travel options still available
,” said the State Department in a statement, which had already advised its fellow citizens not to go there.
He warns that these commercial options are rapidly diminishing, due to international sanctions that include the closure of the airspace of many countries to Russian planes.
The new US diplomatic warning was issued to also take into account Monday's decision to allow non-essential staff at the US Embassy in Moscow to leave.
"
The capacity of the American administration to provide routine or emergency services to American nationals in Russia is extremely limited
", underlines the State Department, which also warns against the risk of "
harassment
" of the Russian authorities targeting Americans.
