Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was arrested in connection with a shooting in the Bay Area on Monday, the San Jose, California, Police Department confirmed.
The shooting victim was taken to a local hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, according to police.
Cain Velasquez was booked in the Santa Clara County Jail for attempted murder.
He is expected to appear in court on Wednesday, according to inmate records.
"The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation at this time," the San Jose Police Department added.
Velasquez competed in the UFC in the heavyweight division and became a two-time champion.
CNN has not been able to determine if Cain Velasquez has retained an attorney at this time.
