Electricity is becoming more and more expensive – e-car drivers are now noticing that too.

Almost every electricity provider charges more for charging than a year ago.

Munich – Buying an e-car should be well thought out.

If you don't have the opportunity to charge the car at home, you should probably reconsider the purchase.

Because the electricity prices are rising - and the charging providers are now letting their customers feel it.

E-car: This is how much it costs to charge at public charging stations

When charging at public columns, a distinction must always be made between the slower alternating current and the normally faster direct current.

Faster charging with direct current usually costs more cents per kilowatt hour.

The first providers have already increased their prices over the past few months, as reported by the

Handelsblatt

.

EnBW made a start in June 2021 with a price increase of twelve percent.

In December, Tesla quietly followed suit and increased electricity prices by 13 percent.

And now most of the other providers are following suit.

In February, Maingau Energie increased by nine percent and Lichtblick by 21 percent.

The Italian provider Enel charged eight percent more from March and EWE Go nine percent from April.

Stadtwerke München made the biggest jump in price with a whopping price increase of 82 percent.

But how much do you have to pay to fully charge your e-car?

This depends on the capacity of the battery.

The VW* ID 3, for example, is available with 58 kilowatt hours.

If you want to charge 30 kilowatt hours, you pay between 13.50 euros and 25.50 euros according to the new prices.

However, you can often fill up on electricity for a little less if you pay a monthly basic fee with the provider.

So if you often rely on public charging, you should use this option.

Rising electricity prices: is it still worth buying an e-car?

But with these rising prices, is it still worth investing in e-mobility?

Well, electricity prices are not the only thing that have skyrocketed in the past few months.

The prices for petrol and diesel also repeatedly reach record levels.

The Ukraine conflict* is now driving it up even further.

The traffic light coalition also wants to abolish climate-damaging subsidies.

This would probably also include the lower taxation of diesel.

Meanwhile, relief is in sight, at least for electricity costs.

Because from July 1st, the so-called EEG surcharge is to be dropped in order to relieve consumers.

As a result, household electricity for end customers should then be 3.723 cents cheaper per kilowatt hour.
