Caín Velásquez, professional fighter and former champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), was arrested on Monday accused of shooting a man in California.
Velasquez, 39, is being held in the Santa Clara County Jail on a charge of attempted murder, San Jose police said.

"The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation at this time," police said.
Officers responded to a call for a shooting late Monday and found a man who had been shot at least once.
He was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, and Velásquez was arrested as the alleged perpetrator.

Velásquez, the son of a migrant who arrived undocumented from Mexico to the United States, is a fighter specializing in mixed martial arts and a two-time UFC heavyweight champion.
