The Hong Kong Polytechnic University's Master of Finance program keeps pace with the times, keeps up with market development trends, matches practical applications, and attaches great importance to professional ethics. It aims to cultivate risk management financial professionals and help students connect to CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) And FRM (Financial Risk Manager) professional exam, grasp the new opportunities in the future.


Dr. Allen Wu, Associate Director of the Master of Finance (MoF) programme at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, said: "The current development trend of the financial industry is integrated with technology, and Fintech is a hot trend. More and more attention has been paid to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues, and there is a desire for leaders who shoulder ESG responsibilities. As black swan events occur from time to time in the society, enterprises need risk management talents and evaluate market risk factors. PolyU MoF courses are aimed at market needs, In line with practical applications, experts from different industries are invited to serve as teachers, providing practical reference for students, keeping abreast of market information, and attaching importance to professional ethics.”

The 2-year Master's degree programme in Finance is divided into two major areas: Corporate Finance and Investment Management.

The first year of the course teaches basic accounting and financial knowledge such as accounting and business analysis, economic and financial analysis, investment, corporate finance principles, financial measurement methods, etc.

Students who choose the amount of business can choose to take mergers and acquisitions, enterprise risk management and entrepreneurial finance in the second year.

Students who choose Investment Management can study subjects such as Security Analysis and Portfolio Management, Fixed Income Securities and Financial Analysis and Estimation.

In order to keep up with the development of the industry, most of the subjects incorporate technology elements, and students have the opportunity to learn about big data, artificial intelligence analysis and application, and ESG.

Allen emphasizes that the course focuses on the latest developments in the market, such as NFT, blockchain and other hot topics. The college regularly invites different experts to serve as guest lecturers to share and communicate with students.

Dr. Allen Wu, Deputy Director of PolyU’s MoF Program, emphasized that the program is aimed at market needs and focuses on emerging market developments.

Allen continued to point out that the course covers 70% of the content and concepts of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) assessment. It is certified by the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (CFA Institute) and provides systematic financial basics to help students prepare for the exam.

The program is also an academic partner of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), helping students prepare for the FRM (Financial Risk Manager) exam.

Graduates: more confident to take the FRM professional exam

PolyU MoF graduate Andriy majored in Master of Corporate Finance and is currently an Assistant Manager of Credit Risk Management in an international investment bank.

Andriy, a recent graduate of PolyU's MoF programme, majoring in a master's degree in corporate finance, is currently working as an assistant manager of credit risk management in an international investment bank, mainly responsible for credit risk management of securities and futures.

With 8 years of experience in the industry, he hopes to continue his development in risk management, look for new opportunities, and welcome new job opportunities at any time.

Andriy pointed out that there are very few courses in the market designed to allow students to choose corporate finance or investment management. Coupled with the excellent teachers of PolyU’s MoF course, he decided to pursue further studies: “PolyU’s MoF course seems to be tailor-made for me. Having a thorough understanding of risk management makes me more confident in my work and maintain professional ethics. Another attraction of the program is that after completing the Master of Corporate Finance program, as long as I take a few more subjects related to investment management, I can study in half a year or Obtaining a double master’s degree within one year will help you in your future career development.”

Andriy said that he planned to take the FRM professional qualification before taking the PolyU MoF course, but found it difficult to take the exam by self-study. After taking the PolyU MoF course, he laid a solid foundation, and he is more confident to take the FRM professional exam and obtain the professional qualification in the future.
