The Central District Court today (Wednesday) sentenced Yevgeny Babitz (41) of Kiryat Motzkin to 4 years in prison, after he used to systematically and subtly steal sums of money from elderly people using substances that have a sedative effect.
Beitz was convicted of theft, debit card fraud, conspiracy to commit a crime and denial of capacity to commit an offense.
In addition, Bebitz was sentenced to probation, a fine of NIS 10,000 and monetary compensation to each of the victims of the crime.
According to the indictment, filed by Adv. Efrat Peer of the Central District Attorney's Office, the defendant managed Sigma Impulses Ltd., which markets physiotherapy devices.
On numerous occasions, the defendant, together with another employee of the company, Yelena Krochnok, systematically acted with the aim of stealing large sums of money from the elderly, while using substances that have a sedative effect on those elderly people in order to facilitate the commission of the offenses.
Defendant Vilna used to come to the nursing home when Yelena knocked on their door, introduced herself as someone who wanted to measure their blood pressure and then handed them sleeping pills under the false pretense that these were blood pressure lowering pills.
Subsequently, after the elderly were in a state of obfuscation, the defendant also entered the apartment and together they searched for cash that was stolen from the elderly as well as credit cards through which they withdrew money from the elderly's account.
At the conclusion of the evidentiary proceedings, Beitz was convicted of five of the nine charges that appeared in the indictment.
The defendant was convicted of the offenses of denial and attempted denial of the capacity to resist for the purpose of committing an offense together, theft in a joint offense, conspiracy to commit a crime, fraud in a debit card in a joint offense, conspiracy to commit a crime.

The prosecution also stated in its arguments that the defendant and his partner carefully selected the elderly they chose to harm, all of whom live alone and in advanced age, as evidence and are among the weakest, lightest and most vulnerable to injury.
The prosecution also insisted that the defendants endangered the elderly by actually giving the pills due to their age and health condition.
The court reinforced this position and noted that: "The defendant selected, after early planning, five victims in whom the youngest is 84 years old ... The defendant together with his partner denied the power of resistance of their victims by using sleeping pills which temporarily denied the power of resistance of "The elderly while indifferent to the consequences of their actions and while introducing chemicals into their bodies against their will ... The protected values that have been harmed are harm to their property, personal security, their right to dignity and protection in the face of their old age."
Subsequently, the court sentenced the defendant to 4 years in prison as well as a suspended sentence, a fine of NIS 10,000 and compensation of NIS 7,500 for each of the victims of the crime in the charges in which he was convicted.
