US President Joe Biden delivered the annual "State of the Nation" speech tonight (Wednesday), the first in his tenure.
The speech comes against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war, and many members of Congress came to the speech holding Ukrainian flags as a sign of support.
The speech was joined by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, Oksana Markrova, who sat next to First Lady Jill Biden.
Biden accused Putin of "misjudging" his invasion of Ukraine.
"Putin wanted to shake the foundations of the free world," he said.
"He thought the world would ignore, but instead he encountered a wall of power like he never expected or imagined."
The United States will ban Russian airspace flights, joining Canada, the European Union and other countries.
"Putin is more isolated from the world than he ever was," Biden said.
In addition, he stated that the United States would impose additional sanctions on Russian oligarchs who support Putin.

Biden has repeatedly said that US military forces will not enter Ukraine.
However, he stressed that "we will defend our allies in NATO if Putin decides to move west."

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has said the G7 will convene a task force to focus on freezing the assets of elites in Russia.
"We are ready to put as much economic pressure as necessary," she added.
She made the remarks after a meeting of G7 finance ministers and central bank governors.
A Reuters / IPSOS poll found that 71% of Americans believe the United States should supply weapons to Ukraine.
It was also found that 43% of Americans support Biden's response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, compared to 34% last week.
On the other hand, about 47% objected to Biden's response to the crisis.
About 77% said the United States should impose additional sanctions on Russia.
The majority of respondents, 58%, supported fuel and gas surcharges to help protect another democracy.
For comparison, 49% agreed with this action in a survey conducted on 23 and 24 February.
In addition, about 75% of respondents said they believe non-action in Ukraine would encourage Russia to take further military action elsewhere in Europe, compared to 71% a week earlier.
