The willingness to help in Geretsried is great.

A call for donations for Ukraine has become a sure-fire success.

The initiators are touched.

Geretsried – The sisters Jolanthe Morawe and Uschi Drappeldrey and their friend Arletta Dunajski have asked for support for Ukrainian women and children.

They expected many donations in kind, but not with this overwhelming mountain of bags and boxes that is now piling up in front of their house on Jeschkenstrasse in Geretsried.

"We are totally touched and a bit emotionally overwhelmed," says Morawe gratefully.

Women from Geretsried ask for donations for Ukraine and are overwhelmed

For example, shortly before the conversation with our newspaper, two young men, maybe 20 and 25 years old, came by.

"If I had seen them on the street, I would not have guessed that they were interested in something like that," reports Morawe.

But they brought diapers and other baby items to the collection point.

"I think they bought the whole Rossmann." The two men didn't want any thanks for their donation, not even a cup of coffee.

And "that's just one of the many touching stories we're experiencing right now," says the Geretsried native.

Morawe provides nursing staff for 24-hour home care.

Some come from Eastern Europe.

"They have dual citizenship and wanted to go home to their families." The two sisters wanted to help them in the face of the Russian attack on Ukraine.

But it did not stop.

They learned from the staff that two children had been born in a subway station in Kyiv, where the families were staying to protect themselves from bomb attacks.

Orphanages in Ukraine are also being evacuated.

"You just want to help."

The call became a sure-fire success.

“We are overwhelmed that so many are donating.

Young and old. And from all nations,” emphasizes Morawe.

Because of their own roots, the women from Geretsried bring the packed bags and boxes to the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Munich.

From there, convoys go to the border in Poland.

"If he's allowed in, he takes the donations to Ukraine." If not, the relief supplies stay in Poland.

They are needed there too.

Morawe: "Some women and children have saved themselves there."

There was also great commitment elsewhere in Geretsried: the city called for a peace concert on Karl-Lederer-Platz.
