Beijing-Sana

China has renewed its rejection of the policy of unilateral sanctions in dealing with the repercussions of the crisis erupting between Russia and Ukraine, expressing its welcome to the negotiations between Moscow and Kiev to seek a political solution that addresses the security concerns of both sides.

At a press conference today, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that China supports and encourages all diplomatic efforts that lead to a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian crisis, welcomes the start of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, and hopes the two sides will continue the process of dialogue and negotiation and seek a political solution that meets their legitimate security concerns. He stressed that China will continue to play a constructive role in promoting de-escalation of the situation in Ukraine.

Wang stressed that his country firmly opposes any illegal unilateral sanctions because the sanctions were not an essential and effective way to solve the problem, as they would only lead to serious difficulties for the economy and further exacerbate division and confrontation.

The United States, Britain and the European Union recently imposed a series of sanctions on Russia over the Russian special military operation to protect the residents of Donbass.

The Chinese spokesman called on relevant parties not to harm the legitimate rights and interests of China and other parties when dealing with the Ukraine issue and relations with Russia, stressing that China and Russia will continue normal trade cooperation in the spirit of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.

In another context, Wang expressed his condemnation of the United States' attempts to spread lies and discredit China.

Commenting on US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's allegations that China committed genocide against its Uyghur population in Xinjiang, Wang said that since the founding of the United States, the massacre of its indigenous Indian population has caused their number to drop sharply from 5 million to 250,000 in the early twentieth century. Each of the five counts of genocide listed in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide can be found in crimes against Indians in the United States.

He explained that the total population of China's Xinjiang region has quadrupled and the total number of Uyghurs has grown from 2.2 million to about 12 million, and to say that Xinjiang is a "genocide" is the outright and immoral "lie of the century" propagated by some anti-Chinese forces in the United States.

The Chinese spokesperson stressed that by spreading lies and discrediting China, US politicians will only discredit themselves.
