Chinese scientists have designed a set of antibodies that can deliver powerful hits to the coronavirus for treatment and prevention.
Xinhua quoted the study published in the journal Nature Immunology as saying, "Researchers from Capital Medical University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences developed a bispecific human monoclonal antibody by combining a non-competing pair of neutralizing human antibodies to target two antigens and thus prevent the virus from binding to its receptor as it showed The double-killing antibody has a greater neutralizing activity than that of the parental and a more effective neutralizing activity against the delta mutant.”
The study pointed out that the researchers selected the escape mutants from two parental antibodies and demonstrated that the double-killing antibody can efficiently neutralize all escape mutants from individual antibodies. The new antibody was also shown to reduce the viral titer in infected non-human primates and genetically modified mice. It makes it a feasible and effective strategy for the treatment and prevention of severely symptomatic COVID-19.
